About Armed Forces And Indian Army

Indian Armed Forces is a military force of the Republic of India. It consists of three uniformed services which consists Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Indian Navy. And the Indian Armed Forces are supported by the Central Armed Police Forces, Indian Cost Guard and Special Frontier Force and several inter-service commands such as the Strategic Forces Command, the Andaman and Nicobar Command and the Integrated Defense Staff. The President of India is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces But its executive authority and responsibility rests with the Prime Minister of India and the Cabinet of India. Armed forces are commanded by a 4-star ranking general. The work of the Indian Armed Forces is to protect the border of India and save the country from external aggressions. The Indian Armed Forces is under the Ministry of Defense Government of India. The Indian Armed Forces have approximately 1.4 million active personnel. Which is the second largest army in the world and the largest volunteer force in the world and the budget is the third largest in the world. Global Fire Power Index India Ranks Fourth for Most Powerful Military. The Indian Armed Forces have also been involved in peace keeping missions.


The Indian Army is the land-based army of India, which is the largest of the Indian Armed Forces. Whose Chief is the Chief of Army Staff (COAS)who is a 4-star general rank. The highest rank in the Indian Army is Field Marshal, which is a 5-star rank general. Till date there have been only 2 people, the first being Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw and another Field Marshal KM Cariappa. The Indian Army has participated in many wars before and after independence. Which includes World War-1 and World War-2 before Independence and Indo-Pak War and Indo-China War after Independence. Indian army 7 commands have been created 1. Central Command (Lucknow) 2. Northern Command (Udhampur) 3. Eastern Command (Kolkata) 4. Southern Command (Pune) 5. South Western Command (Jaipur) 6. Western Command (Chandimandir) 7. Training Command (Shimla). There are 27 regiments in the Indian Army. The smallest unit in the structure of the Indian Army is a section which consists of 10 men. And there is a platoon bigger than the section, which consists of 3 sections. A rifle company is larger than a platoon and consists of 3 platoons. A Battalion/Regiment is larger than a rifle company and is commanded by a Colonel Rank Officer .A Brigade is larger than a Battalion/Regiment, consisting of 3 battalions and support elements, commanded by Brigadier-Rank Officers. There is a Division bigger than a brigade, which has 3-4 brigades, which is commanded by a Division commander whose rank is Major General. A Corps is larger than a division, consisting of 3-4 divisions, Corps commanded by a Lieutenant General Rank Officer. Above that comes the Army Operational Command and the Army Training Command, for which senior general rank officers are there . The Training Command is divided into two categories, Category A and Category B. And above all this is the Army Headquarters which controls all these which is commanded by the Chief of Army Staff.
