Field Defences

The following trenches and pits are made for field defences-

1.      Fire Trench

2.      Weapon Pit

3.      Bunker

4.      Pill box

5.      L.M.G Fire Trench

6.      2 Inch Mortar Pit

7.      Shelter Trench

8.      Two men fire trench

 

Obstacles

In order to harm the enemy, his operational presence is increased: –

1.      Dislodge them by blocking with fire.

2.      Control enemy movement and autocratic expansion.

3.      Trap the enemy in your kill zone.

4.      Destroy the enemy’s time, labour and equipment by skirmishing.

5.      Demoralize the enemy.


Types of Obstacles-

Obstacles are of the following two types:

1.      Infantry Obstacles- In this, tunnel, wireless, barbed fence and natural Obstacles; Like- swamp, drain, ditch, hill top etc.

2.      Vehicles and Tank Obstacles- These are all types of interceptor vehicle means in which armoured vehicles are included. Increase natural and artificial increase in this; Such as tunnels, tanks, ditches, drains etc. are included.

 

 Mines-

Mine is a charge filled with gunpowder, which explodes when a certain weight is removed or pulled. There are three types of mines: –

1.      Anti Personnel Mines.

2.      Anti TANK Mines.

3.      Anti Personnel Cum Anti Tank Mines.


Mines Laying

Mines are used as artificial barriers to stop the enemy’s infantry.

Mines Field- The part of land on which mines are planted is called mine field. Mines field is planted by hand or by machine at 3″-4″ depth in the ground.

 

Types of Mines Fields

1.      Protective Mine Fields.

2.      Defensive Mine Fields.

3.      Technical Mine Fields.

4.      Nuisance Mines Fields.

5.      Dummy Mine Fields.

Mine Strip

When two or more mine lines are placed on either side of their middle day, they are called mine strips.

It is of the following types-

1.      Anti personnel Strips.

2.      Anti Tank Strips.

3.      Mixed Strips.

Methods of Mine Field

There are two types of mine field: –

Strip Method-

By this method, the way of planting mines is that the distance between the two sides of the mines.

Scattered Mine Laying-

In this method, mines are placed in a random manner.


Mines Laying and Breaking

Mines are charges filled with gunpowder, on which it is explodes due to certain weight.

The part of land on which mines are planted is called mine field. Mines field is planted 3-4 feet deep in the ground.

The minesweeping party is divided into the following parts: –

1.      reiki party

2.      send party

3.      mine laying party

4.      marking party

5.       carrying party

 

There are several methods used to break mines; As – 1. By hand, 2. By machine, 3. By blasting.

The mine breaking party is divided into the following parts: –

1.      Send out party

2.      Basic Breaching party

3.      Pulling party

4.      Marking party

5.      Repair party

Barbed Wire

A barbed wire rope is used to prevent the enemy from approaching its defence post. Barbed wire is generally placed at a distance of 80-100 meters from the defence post.

Barbed wire extensions are of the following types: –

1.      Low Wire Entanglement.

2.      Cat Wire Fence Type-1.

3.      Cat Wire Fence Type-2.

4.      Double Apron Fence.
