Military History

Through the doors of military history, we look at the past military activities, organization, style and various other things.  By knowing the reason for which the army got victory or defeat in any period, we try not to allow the reasons of defeat to arise in the future war.

Military system of ancient India –

It is known from Rigveda that Aryans had Chaturangi army. The army had bow and arrow, sword, ax etc. weapons. The army was made to stand on the battlefield in the form of mandalas, chakravyus etc. The war used to take place in the day time in the open field on the banks of the river. The chariot army was the most important for war in the Vedic period. Horses and elephants were used during this period to collect information and to deliver logistics.

Army of middle age India –

The military history of India did not depend on scientific terms until the arrival of the British in India. India’s war was not conducted by a trained and permanent army, but used to be between the armies of different tribes.
In these wars, there was a lack of proper war formation, while the divisions of Europe’s armies were fully organized and trained. In this period the importance of infantry was very less,
The elephant army was more important than the chariot army under. There was neither any special battle formation in the infantry, nor did they have regular weapons.

Due to the use of horses when the Muslims came to India, there was a huge change in the battle system. Due to the high mobility of elephants in horses, the importance of elephant army started decreasing gradually. After the arrival of the Mughals in India, guns and ammunition started being used in the war. Babur defeated the huge army of Ibrahim Lodi on the strength of cannons.

This important principle of India was not given importance that it is necessary to give military training to make soldiers disciplined and dutiful.

Indian kings were defeated by invaders due to lack of leadership and control. Indians measure their military strength by numbers and not by their war skills. In this era, Indian kings did not use deceit

the king himself fought the war. Due to this, after the start of the war, the king’s control over the army ended. After the death of the king, there used to be mutiny in the army.

Modern military system

In the year 1613, the East India Company was allowed to trade in India by Jahangir.

The company formed two Rajput companies in Bombay under Indian officers in the year 1983 for its defence. Gradually, the East India Company continued to increase its soldiers and in due course the British made a permanent regiment of Indian soldiers.

In the year 1751, Colonel Clive organized the Indian forces and trained them in European manner.

After the independence of the year 1987, the rule of the East India Company on India came to an end and in its place the power of India came under the rule of Queen Victoria.

He appointed Viceroy in India and appointed Secretary of State Staff in England, who advised him in Indian affairs. After independence, the number of Indians in the army was reduced.
