Structure Of Indian Army
Control Command
To control properly, the whole country has been divided into the following 6 commands:
1. Eastern Command, HQ Kolkata (West Bengal)
2. Western
Command HQ Chandigarh (Panjab)
3. Southern
Command HQ Pune (Maharashtra)
4. Central
Command HQ Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh)
5. Northern Command HQ Udhampur (Jammu Kashmir)
6. South Western Command HQ Jaipur (Rajasthan)
The commander of these commands is called the General Officer
Commanding-in-Chief (GOC),
Which is of lieutenant general rank. There are areas and sub-areas under
these commands.
Area and sub-area commanders are officers of the rank of Major General and Brigadier respectively.
Infantry Formations
The formation of infantry for the purpose of war is as follows: –
1.
Section– It is the smallest unit of infantry. There
are 10 jawans in it. Section Commander is of the rank of Havildar.
2.
Platoon– A
platoon consists of platoon headquarters and 3 sections. Platoon Commander is
of the rank of Naib Subedar.
3.
Company- A
company may have a company head quarter and 3 platoon and one LMG and RCL section
each. The company is commanded by an officer of the rank of Major.
4.
Battalion- A battalion consists of a battalion headquarters, a
headquarters company and 4 rifle companies. It is the main fighting unit of the
infantry which is complete in itself.
It is commanded by an officer of the rank of colonel.
5.
Brigade- There are 3 battalions in addition to a brigade headquarters. commanded
by an officer of the rank of brigadier.
6.
Division- There is a divisive may headquarters and 3 brigades. commanded
by an officer of the rank of Major General.
7.
Core- Under this, apart from a core headquarters, there are one or
two divisions. It is commanded by an officer of the rank of Lieutenant General.
8. Command- It includes the headquarters and one or two cores. wartime military peacekeeping command assumes a more senior position than headquarters.
Formation Of Infantry Battalion
An infantry battalion may consist of 21 officers, 33 jco, 765
other ranks and 32 enlisted men. Apart from this there is one
officer, one jco and 13 other arrays. A battalion may have an intelligence
section, a Rp section and a signal section in addition to the battalion headquarters.

Formation of company
A headquarters company consists of a mortar
platoon, LMG platoon, quarter master platoon, pioneer section and medical
section in addition to the headquarters.

Formation of Rifle
Company
A battalion may have four rifle companies. Each company may have 3 platoons,
one section of LMG in addition to the company rank. A Rifle Company May 2
Officers 4 Jco and 130 OR(Other Rank).

Section HQ Formation
There are 10 jawans in one section. The Section Commander is of the rank
of Havildar and Section 2I/C is of the rank of Naik.
