History Of Indian Armed Forces

 

The Indian Armed Forces have earned the country’s trust and respect Because their officers and men and women are professional.

Indian Armed Forces, which includes Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, their basic organizational and rank structure still the same as the British Armed Forces. If we talk about the first time, then the mention of Armies is in Vedas and Ramayana and Mahabharata. The rise and fall of different dynasties from ancient times to the 19th century in the 19th century, Britishers made India their colony. The Indian Armed Forces originated in the 19th century during the British Raj.

In which the army of many presidencies were merged and placed under British Crown.
The British Indian Army has fought both world wars, World War 1 and World War 2.


The Indian Armed Forces are derived from the British Indian Armed Forces. In which many units were removed and many troops were discharged after World 2.

The British Armed Forces were divided into two parts, the Indian Armed Forces and the Pakistan Armed Forces after independence. In which ships aircraft and many other things were distributed

After Partition 15 August 1947 Indian Armed Forces Comprised: –

Indian Army: –

 12 armoured corps units, 61 engineer units, 15 infantry regiments, 18.5 artillery regiments. The 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, 9th battalions from Gorkha, attached to the British Army, remained a part of the Indian Army. 2nd, 6th, 7th, 10th was made part of the British Army,

Indian Navy: –

2 frigates, 4armed trawlers, 4sloops, 4motor minesweepers, 1corvette, 4harbour defence launches, 1survey vessel.

Indian Airforce: –

 1transport squadron of Douglas Dakota 3/4aircraft, Seven fighter squadrons of Hawker Tempest II.

 

Over the years, the Armed Forces have been the fugitives of many battles Which is 1947-48 Indo-Pak war, 1962 Indo-China war, 1965 Indo-Pak war, 1971 Indo-Pak war and 1999 Kargil between Indo-Pak

(Battle fought in high altitude Mountain warfare).

The Indian Armed Forces overthrew the Nizam on 15 January 1949 by annexing the State of Hyderabad.

General K.m Cariappa appointed India’s first commander- in- chief of Indian army.

Subroto Mookerjee was appointed the first commander-in-chief of the Indian Air Force.

On 22 April 1958, Vice Admiral Ram Dass Katari was appointed the first Chief of the Naval Staff.

Year 1961 Tension increased between Portugal and India because Portugal had occupied the territory of Goa which India considered as its part.

In 1961, the Government of India made a deed to annex Goa. Because Portuguese police used violence on peaceful protestors who asked to join India

So, the military operation started by the name of Operation Vijay, in which armed forces Attacked from Land, Sea and Air. In which Army Navy and Airforce participated. The result of which the Portuguese surrendered within just 36 hours and 451 years of Portuguese colonial rule came to an end.

India’s role has increased from regional to global state in 21st century. In which India keeps its influence from Gulf of Eden to Strait of Malacca and dominates the entire South Subcontinent

and emerging as a regional power and net security provider of the Indo-Pacific.
