History of National Cadet Corps

The National Cadet Corps (NCC) originated in India in 1948, which was called the University Corps before 1948.Which was made on the basis of Indian Defence Act 1917. In 1942, the University Corps was renamed as the University Officer Training Corps (UTC). Which was made to meet the shortage of the Indian Army. In 1946, a committee was formed by order of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, which was headed by Pandit Hridhay Nath Kunzru. Whose aim was to make the youth of the country a responsible citizen and leader.
In 1949, the Girls Division was formed, in which girls from school colleges were also made part of the National Cadet Corps. Earlier the aim of the National Cadet Corps was for the army only but in 1950 it was made inter- service when the air wing was based in it and the year 1942 to the Naval Wing.

From the year 1952, social communities’ development and social service were included in the curriculum of the national cadet cops (NCC), which contributed to the growth of the NCC.

After the Indo-China War, the National Cadet Corps was made compulsory in the year 1963 to meet the shortage of soldiers in the army. Which was discontinued in 1968 and re-voluntarily reinstated. National Cadet Corps (NCC) is the largest uniformed youth organization in the world in which students of schools and colleges participate. And in which different certificates and awards are given to the cadets during the course and after completing the course.

For the successful operation of NCC, in 1948 Defense Ministry Government of India established NCC Directorate. In which Colonel’s equivalent officer Gopal Guru Nath Baibur was appointed as the first director.
After the expansion of ranks, this rank was increased to brigadier in the year 1954 and Major General in the year 1961. Year 1962 Director post renamed as Director General National Cadet cops Whose first Director General Major General R.S. Paintal was appointed.

The evaluation and review of the work of the National Cadet Corps by the Government of India Year 1972 Headed by Dr. G.S. Mahajani, Vice Chancellor of Pune University to refer and evaluate the goals of National Cadets Whose committee’s recommendations were implemented by the Government of India.

 On December 20, 1986 unconstitutional Under Resolution 8, another committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Lt. Gen. (Rtd) M.L. Thapan. The committee presented its findings in June 1988. The finding which was accepted and implemented by the Government of India.

Advisory Committee: –

 1.Central Advisory Committee:-

The work of the Central Advisory Committee is under the supervision of the Central Advisory Committee guarded under the provisions of Section 12 of the Act. It is chaired by the Minister of State for Defense.

 2.State Advisory Committee:-

Like the Central Committee, the State Committee was constituted in each State. Senior officers of the state and Additional    Director General of the state would be its members.
